The Latin@ Graduate Student Association (LGSA) was founded in 2009 as an inclusive organization that seeks to advance the personal and professional development of Latin@ graduate students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The mission of LGSA is to offer interdisciplinary programming and opportunities to support the academic, personal and professional lives of graduate and professional students. LGSA provides a space for graduate students to expand their academic community through professional dialogues, research exchange, and interpersonal support through networking with Latin@ alumni, faculty, staff. LGSA builds fellowship among its members to address issues encountered by the Latin@ community.
LGSA goals are to:
A – Advance the retention of Latin@ graduate students
D – Develop research and publication opportunities to further the professional development of Latin@ graduate students
E – Empower the next generation of Latin@ graduate students through professional development and programming about graduate school
L – Learn and collaborate from each other and networks
A – Advocate for support networks for Latina/o graduate/professional students, faculty and other members of the University of Wisconsin community
N – Nurture Latin@ graduate students’ professional goals and aspirations
T – Take on issues of cultural validation and celebration
E – Enhance the intellectual and social community for Latin@ graduate students
